Arles

The city of Arles dates back to the 7th century, and is steeped in Roman history. The famous Roman arena seats 20,000 people and is still used for performances today. There are other places of historical Roman interest as well, including the baths and various cloisters. It is not just Roman history that marks Arles out as special, it is home to many more recent yet equally beautiful and spectacular monuments. The town hall is based on Versailles, the ornate Provencal stone carved cathedral is a truly spectacular sight, and walking through the town itself is like stepping into medieval France.
